Safety and Oils
It is important that when you use essential oils with your pets that you use them safely. We dilute based on an animals weight. When in doubt dilute. Never apply to eyes, on or in ears, nose or genitals. Skin irritation is the most common reaction, if this occurs dilute with carrier oil until irritation resolves. Essential oils are like any other oil they do not mix with water so if you were to get into a situation where an oil has gotten into an eye dilute with carrier oil until the eye is no longer irritated.
Make sure you know your pet’s health status before starting. Use caution around animals that are pregnant, nursing or on certain medications. If using topical flea/tick prevention don’t apply oils.
If your pet seems to be distressed , drooling, squinting, rubbing face, vocalization, shaking, vomiting or diarrhea then discontinue use. Contact your veterinarian when serious symptoms occur.
Hot oils can be very irritating so dilution is imperative.
